HELICOPTER IN 1754

Another Claim For Soviet Invention (NJs.P.A.— Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, July 11. The Soviet news agency, Tass, claimed today that the Russians designed the first helicopter two centuries ago and flew a prototype of it on July 12, 1754. The agency says that a group of Leningrad scientists found the plan for the helicopter in the minutes of a meeting of the Academy of Science held on February 4, 1754. It was the invention of a philosopherscientist, Mikhail Lomonossov, the agency says, and was designed to take scientific instruments into the air.
