SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
SCRIPTURE EXAMINATION RESULTS Scripture examinations conducted by the North Canterbury Sunday School Union attracted entries from 655 at 44 schools. The results were announced at a large gathering in the Durham Street Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon. The president of the union (Mr J. Pryor) presided. Organ solos and accompaniments were played by Mr G. Mathieson. The awards were as follows: Gold Medals.—Junior: Johnathon Mayson (St. Albans). Intermediate: Michael Mayson (St. Albans). Senior: Christine Mosey (Nelson). First Prizes.—Junior: John Ayers (Edgeware road), Wesley Cederman (Oxford)'. Hugh Coley. Denise Clark, and Graeme Rumble (Papanui), Paul Dunlop (Durham Street). Wendy Connall (Oxford), Alexander Stevenson, Elva Woolsey, Hylton Wright, and Margaret Smith (Sockburn). Dawn Spicer (Sydenham), Lynne Smith (Linwood), Johnathon Mayson (St. Albans). Intermediate: Brian Pritchard (Ashburton), Alan Best (Nelson), Malcolm Griffin and Wendy Pearce (Sydenham), Lesley Constable (Oxford), Patricia Read (Papanui), Trevor Wright and Beris Pashby (Sockburn), Colleen Read (Weedons). Barbara Peddie (Durham Street), Michael Mayson (St. Albans). Senior: Dawn Alison (East Belt), Christine Mosey (Nelson). Special prizes were awarded to Adaline Jones (Oxford), Maureen Scott (Sumner), William Ritchie (Cambridge Terrace), Robert Overton (Weedons), and Diane Muirson (Bryndwr). The Virtue Memorial Prize was won by Lynne Smith (Linwood), and the secretary’s (Mr W. D. Marks) good writing prize was awarded to Alison Harris (Clarence Road). Shields were awarded to the schools with the highest proportion of passes, as follows:—A grade (40 or more pupils), Sydenham. B grade (20 to 40 pupils), Clarence Road. C grade (20 pupils or under). Broadfield.
