INTER-PORT P CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 4. The Ponsonby Cruising Club’s plans to inaugurate a world inter-port P class yachting championship have been completed. The Auckland Provincial Yacht and Motor-boat Association has approved the staging of the first event for the sevenfooters next January. Overseas countries yrill be asked to compete, but it is likely that only an Australian entry vrill be received for the first championship. The prize will be the United Services’ trophy, given in memory of yachtsmen killed in World War 11, and raced for by ports in the Auckland province. It is expected that most ports in New Zealand will compete. Costs will be kept low, as each seven-footer has only a oneman crew. Competing centres will supply their own boats, except for overseas entries. The contest will be over seven races, decided on the Olympic points system, but crews will change boats after each race.
