WELLINGTON PROSPECTS

RAPID RIVAL SHOULD RACE AVELJL Rapid Rival, a winner over two miles at Hutt Park last month, should win the Au Revoir Handicap on the opening day of the Wellington, Trotting Club’s winter meeting today. The Wayfarer mare looks handily placed on the front. Rapid Rival is trained at Orari by R. S. Dixon, who also has Annie Laurie and Crafty Guy engaged at Hutt Park today. Dixon should have a most profitable trip with these three horses. The consistent Master Tony, a member of J. M. Bain’s Oamaru team, is long overdue for another win. The Dillon Hall pacer has plenty of ability, and if he escapes trouble in the running he should extend Rapid Rival. Magic Mist showed speed in his race at the Canterbury Park meeting. After losing a lot of ground early he was close up in seventh place at the post. Very little improvement would be needed for him to be returned a winner today. Terowie was a place-getter at Addington last month. He is racing with more dash than earlier in the season, and he will have prospects of being placed. Others likely to race well are Ductile, Christmas Spirit, which is now being trained by J. G. Hampton, and Barney Dillon, which impressed in his trial at Addington last Tuesday. The double will be run on the R. A. Armstrong Memorial Handicap and the Port Nicholson Handicap.
