AVONSIDE HIGH SCHOOL

ANNUAL MEETING OF OLD GIRLS

A very successful gathering, attended by 65 old girls of Avonside Girls’ High School, was held at the Sign of the Takahe when the annual meeting was preceded by a buffet tea. The guests, who were received by the president (Miss Alison Hughes) and the secretary (Mrs E. Nicholls) were:— Miss M. Samuel, Miss E. B. Baxter, Miss K. Leonard, Miss D. Chapman, Mrs P. D. Shea, all vice-presidents of the association, and Miss S. Sumpter, who has recently left the staff of the school. At the annual meeting the following officers were elected:—president, Miss Hughes; vice-presidents, Misses Baxter, M. Samuel, V. F. Townsend, Chapman, K. Leonard, and Mrs Shea; secretary, Mrs E. Nicholls; treasurer, Mrs J. Mangan; committee, Mrs I. Miller, Mrs R. Creevey. Mrs P. Henderson, Mrs I. Sparrow, Mrs G. Voller, Misses P. Yates, R.‘ Loader, P. Kennedy, B. Mitchell, P. Andrews, M. Mitchell, H. Le Cren. Miss Sumpter was congratulated on her recent appointment as senior assistant mistress at the new Linwood High School. Those present were entertained by piano solos played by Miss Madeline Bailey.
