FIRE DAMAGES WORKSHOPS

MOST OF ENGINEERING PLANT DESTROYED

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 23.

A fire which swept through the offices and pattern shop of Mason Bros., engineers, at Mount Wellington early this morning destroyed twothirds of the plant. The factory began production four months ago. One workshop, with an area of 3000 square feet, was completely gutted, and only desperate efforts by the. fire brigade saved two-thirds of a second workshop, which was separated from the other by a dividing wall. Firemen fought the blaze for several hours. Today all that was left of the gutted shop were twisted girders, fragments of the composition wall material, and a few charred wooden patterns intended for moulding. A spokesman for the company today could give no estimate of the damage, and brigade experts were unable to say what had caused the fire.
