WOOL VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 24. All better style Merino fleece and skirtings were up to 5 per cent, dearer than yesterday at the Newcastle wool sales today, and comebacks and crossbreds were in the sellers’ favour. There was a total clearance of the 14.660 bales offered.
Britain, the Continent, the United States, and Japan were the main buyers, with good support from local mills and East Europe. Crossbred prices included 107 d for good 60-64’s, 105 d for good 60’s. 97d for good 60-58’s, and 79d for good average sG’s. At Melbourne Comebacks and fine crossbreds were 21 per cent, dearer than Monday’s rates at the Melbourne wool sale today, and other descriptions remained firm. Britain. West Europe. Japan, and local mills competed freely, while there was a useful vein of American support. There was a full clearance of the 8300 bales. Among the crossbred prices were llOd for good 60-64’s. 106 d for good to super 58’s, 91d for godd to super 56’s, 75Jd for good to super 50’s, and 65d for good 46’s.
