GIRL’S DEATH IN ROME
Demand For Inquiry (Rec. 8 p.m.) ROME, March 23. The Italian Chamber of Deputies tonight defeated a Communist-led attempt to force an early debate on demands for a full Parliamentary inquiry into what is now known as the “drug orgy” trial. The chamber decided by 268 to 207 votes against the demand by the Communists and their Socialist allies that the Chamber should discuss immediately, or at least on Thursday, two motions calling for such an inquiry.
A spokesman said that the Parliamentary discussions should be postponed until after a new inquiry by ttye Magistrature into the death of a girl. Wilma Montesi, after whose death a Rome journalist was charged with sedition. The journalist claimed that Montesi died after a “drug orgy” by high Italian society and not by drowning, as claimed by the police. The trial, which has implicated Italian officials and members of Parliament, has been postponed pending new inquiries.
