EXPORT OF PERLITE FROM N.Z.

BIG PLANT TO BE OPENED SOON

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 1. Perlite is soon to be exported from New Zealand to Australia, and possibly to India, said the managingdirector of Giles and Elliots, Ltd. (Mr B. T. Giles) on his return to Wellington in the flying-boat Aranui from Sydney today. “A pilot plant for the processing of perlite is now being produced.’’ said Mr Giles, “and a major plant will be in operation before the end of the year. At first we will export it in bags, but later hope to be able to export in bulk.” During his time away, Mr Giles had discussions with the director of the Indian Government’s Geological Survey Division. Perlite would greatly reduce the weight of buildings being constructed on the soft delta soil in the Calcutta area, he said.
