STOP WHEN PASSING SCHOOL BUSES
MOTOR UNION TO OBTAIN VIEWS OF REGULATION (From Our Own Reporter) NELSON. December 1. The South Island Motor Union will seek an expression of opinion from automobile associations on the new regulation making it compulsory for all vehicles to stop when approaching from either direction school buses which have stopped. This was announced by the S.I.M.U. president (Mr C. M. Rout) at the annual meeting of the Nelson Automobile Association last evening. The action had been taken after representations by the Nelson association, Mr Rout said. Previously the association had expressed the opinion that the regulation was unnecessary, especially in its reference to vehicles approaching from the opposite direction- ■ The association also suggested that instead of stopping a reduction to five to 10 miles an hour would be better. Mr Rout said that the regulation introduced some months ago requiring all passenger vehicles to stop at all railway crossings in New Zealand had now been amended as a result of representations from motor unions. The restriction on taxis had been partially lifted, and these cars would now have to stop at certain crossings, which were to be gazetted.
