RECONSTRUCTION OF WHARF

SATISFACTORY PROGRESS AT LYTTELTON

Satisfactory progress had been maintained on the reconstruction of the steamer express wharf at Lyttelton, the engineer-in-chief (Mr J. A. Cashin) reported to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. All campshears and hanging fenders had been fitted, all mooring posts put in place and were being dressed to shape. Eighty-five per cent, of the decking had been laid and fastened down, 35 per cent, of fenders and chaffing plates and 62 per cent, of the rubbing strip had been fitted. The electric wiring was three-quarters completed. The Railways Department had completed the construction of the platform sub-structure and the veranda except for roof gutters and spouting. Painting was being done. It was expected that fabrication of the high-level gangway platform would begin shortly.
