ASHLEY COUNTY COUNCIL

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND DELEGATES Mr A. A. Mackintosh was re-elected chairman at the monthly meeting of the Ashley County Council. He was unopposed. Delegates were appointed as follows: No. 14 District Highways Council, the chairman: South Island Local Bodies’ Association, Mr C. L. Lester; Canterbury Progress League, Mr J. Crooks. A letter was received from Messrs H. G. Royds and Sutherland, consulting engineers, forwarding alternative plans to deal with erosion at the Karetu river on the Loburn-Whiterock main highway. It was agreed to accept the bank protection scheme at a cost of £5OO and to recommend to the Ministry of Works that it be approved. The Ministry of Works advised that £642 had been voted for work on the Okuku Pass road on a basis of £5 to £l. The clerk reported that the work to be carried out was mainly piping and metalling. The money involved would have to be spent within the present financial year.
