HYDROGEN’S RECORD

£57,179 WON IN 51 STARTS (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 9. Hydrogen, which broke Phar Lap’s Australian stake record when he won the C. B. Fisher Plate at Flemington on Saturday, has started 51 times for 24 wins, seven seconds, and eight thirds.

Phar Lap’s record of £56,425 stood for 22 years. Hydrogen’s total now is £57,179.

Phar Lap started 50 times for 36 wins, three seconds, and two thirds. He also started once in America, and won. His American winnings were 50,505 dollars. That amount is not included in his Australian stake total.

Hydrogen was bought as a yearling for 3200 guineas. He was bred at the Kia Ora Stud, New South Wales, by the late Mr Percy Miller. He is by an imported English stallion, Delville Wood, from Sweet Sound, by Magpie.

Mr E. R. Williams, owner of Hydrogen. says he doubts very much whether Hydrogen will run in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick, as it will be run under quality handicap conditions. If present plans eventuate. Hydrogen will return to Melbourne to run in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, a standard weight-for-age race, at Flemington on February 27.
