WILLIAMSTOWN CUP WEIGHTS

MY HERO LIKELY TO COMPETE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 9. Wodalla. winner of the Melbourne Cup. has been penalised 71b, bringing his weight to 8-11 for the Williamstown Cup, to be run at Caulfield next Saturday. My Hero, winner of the Caulfield Cup, has received 21b extra, making his weight 9-2. Mr E. A. Underwood, owner of Wodalla. said he would consult his trainer, Bob Sinclair, and the jockey Jack Purtell, about a start for Wodalla. He said he would like to win the Williamstown Cup for sentimental reasons, as his father and he had been associated with the Williamstow’n club for many years, but he would not knock the horse about.

If Wodalla starts, he will be ridden by Purtell. If Wodalla does not start, Purtell will ride the former New Zealand horse. My Hero.

Mr H. Guist, who paid 5300 guineas at auction for My Hero last Friday, says that the horse is almost a certain starter in the Williamstown Cup. Royal Radiant, winner of the Victorian Racing Club Handicap on Saturday, has also been rehandicapped 31b. bringing his weight to 7-8 in the Williamstown Cup. Sun Salute has been penalised 51b to 7-6 in the same race.

The New Zealand horse. Earldom, has 8-3 in the cup. and is a likely runner. He has been very unlucky since his arrival in Australia, but has been out of a place only twice in 11 starts. He fell once in Sydney, when he appeared to have the race won, and finished fourth in the Melbourne Cup.

REIGNING KING RETURNS NORTH

Reigning King, the North Island stayer which finished third to Gold Scheme and Lancaster in the New Zealand Cup on Saturday, w’as taken north by nis Woodville trainer, P. Burgess, last evening. He is to be eased up for a few weeks and will probably be prepared then for the Royal Wellington Cup.

Indian Trainer Dies Bill Buckley, formerly of Australia, who was Western India's leading horse trainer, died on Friday. Buckley began his career in India as a jockey, riding with considerable success before becoming a trainer. He prepared a large team of racehorses, including those of the Maharaja of Kashmir.— (P.A.)
