“ICE HI-LIGHTS”
NON-STOP VAUDEVILLE
Ice skating in the form of good, bright vaudeville was presented at the Centaurus Road Skating Rink last evening when “Ice Hi-lights” entertained a good crowd to an hour and a half of extreme speed, graceful dancing and acrobatics with a dash of comedy to add to the thorough enjoyment of a well arranged programme. For the first time many of those present realised just what could be done on the steel blades by men and women experienced in the art of iceskating and the speed and grace with which intricate movements were accomplished were amazing. Full credit for the training of the big number of 47 performers, which included many with only a limited ex? perience of ice-skating, must go to Miss Gwen Jones, an Australian gold medallist, who with the New Zealand ice-skating champion, Tom Grigg, provided outstanding features of a firstclass programme. “Two in Harmony” was a fitting title for an item in which both performers showed perfect rhythm in graceful movements, and Lynn and Ivan McDonald, Canterbury pairs champions, were accorded well-deserved applause in an exhibition of fancy skating. Hank and Kwis, with experience of ice-skating in Holland, were responsible for a good share of the comedy in which acrobatics of a highly commendable standard were introduced.
“Ice Hi-lights” is presented on a rink big enough to allow the performers full rein for the display of undoubted talent, and is a novel form of entertainment that is certain to attract attention during the season. With a few exceptions all the performers are from Canterbury, and have learned to skate during the last 12 months.
