MILK BOTTLE CAPS
“ALL-OVER” METAL TYPE FAVOURED “All-over” metal milk bottle tops are favoured by the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board. At yesterday’s meeting of the board it was decided to instruct milk companies that the metal tops were more hygienic and, therefore, to be preferred and that they should change as soon as possible to this type. The Canterbury Housewives’ Union had complained in a letter to the board that in “certain areas of the city milk bottle tops have been changed back to the. old cardboard inset type.” After having the all-over metal tops the housewives thought the change was a backward step. “The reason given by the milkman for the change was that the narrow-necked oottles were too hard to clean,” the letter said.
“We do hope until such time as the more hygienic cartons can be used in Christchurch that you will revert to the all-over caps used until recently.” “It might be wise to communicate with the milk treatment stations asking about the possibility of changing over to the metal tops,” said the chairman of the board (Mr J. Mathison, M.P.) “There is an over-all parchment cap which can be used on the widemouthed bottles,” said Mr W. P. Warner.
