THE EARTH’S MAGNETISM
Sir, —Dr. Neils Bohr of Copenhagen University, apparently working along lines similar to those of M. G. Davies, has evidently arrived at similar conclusions, saying that the human body is nothing but a mass of flying electrons. School science classes bracketing electricity and magnetism, it is to be hoped, realise the goal which M. G. Davies points as indicative of progress in study. Dr. George Crile of Cleveland has said that oxidation is a moqt important function of the cell and renews “the electrical charges within the cell,” again disclosing the relationship of bodily magnetism to life. Disturbances of electrical and magnetic currents would seem to be responsible for much ill-health according to one investigator, Esther S. Benett, F.R.C.—Yours, etc., EQUILIBRIUM. November 6, 1953.
“CRY THE BELOVED COUNTRY” Sir,—Fellow feeling in discrepancy being wondrous kind, it was soothing to several of his hearers suffering spelling disabilities to hear the Dean of Christchurch in his lunch hour address, confess his repeated inability to master the spelling of Habakkuk. He expressed reluctance to write to the newspapers regarding his hope that many would attend the film “Cry the Beloved Country,” but his wisom in so advising his listeners, leads me to write in his stead. A number of the congregation followed his direction and attended the theatre at the close of his discourse. Those interested in Africa’s problems or in solutions likely to follow fellow feeling in action, will appreciate the advice to attend the film.—Yours, etc., RECIPROCITY. November 6, 1953.
