£50,000 WIN IN LOTTERY
Dunedin Carpenter To Continue Work EARLY MARRIAGE PLANNED (New Zealand Press Association} . DVWEDTN, Nov.fl. A few days ago Mr Cyril Vercoe, of 325 Hillside road, was just one of thousands of young men in Dunedin; but today . he is the most eligible bachelor in the city. He holds the “Snowy Winter Syndicate’* ticket, No. 38586, in a Melbourne Cup consultation, and is richer by £50,000. Every penny of this £50,000 is owned by Mr Vercoe. He bought the ticket from Mr J. Wood, a well-known Duhedin vendor.
Mr Vercoe said today that he was not aware he had won the consultation until he saw the number and nom-de-plume in a morning newspaper. Asked what he proposed to do with the money, Mr Vercoe said: “I can tell you this: for quite some time I have been trying to save enough to buy tyres and tubes for my. bicycle, and this is the first thing I am going to do.”
He said he would definitely continue working as a carpenter. One of the immediate events in Mr Vercoe’s future will be marriage. He is engaged to Miss F. Hansen, who took the day off from work to join her fiance in celebration of his win. “No definite date has been set,” he said, “but we will get married as soon as possible?’ Mr Vercoe said he had taken consultation t : ckets fairly regularly. At his first attempt he had won £5, and the £50.000 was his only other win.
