, FRIDAY ?Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR Patrick Oliver Porter, aged 22, pleaded guilty to a charge that he behaved in a disorderly manner in the bar of Storey s Hotel on October 31. He was convicted and fined £3. Sub-Inspector F. J. Brady said that Porter, with a man. Ell, who had already been dealt with, and two other men, not identified, went into Storey's Hotel about 5 p.m. They were under* the influence of liquor and were talking very loudly A customer in the bar told them to shut up and Porter went round to look for this man. A fight developed into a brawl and 'it took the licensee and four of his staff to put the men Out. Ell was badly hUrt and Porter suffered minor injuries and abrasions. When the police arrived the men had to be taken to hospital instead of to the police station. Mr A. K. Archer, who .appeared for Porter, that the accused did not start the fight. He was provoked, in that highly insulting words were used by the man who tola them to shut up. He went round the bar to ask the man his reason for using such language, and found himself in a fight. Counsel submitted that Porter and Ell had been made the scape goats. Porter had been in trouble before, but it was more than two years ago. The Magistrate said that if it had not been for Porter's two previous convictions he might have believed he was not the aggressor.
