CAUSE OF BRADFORD RAIL COLLISION
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) . LONDON, September 19. ’rhe “human failure” of the enginedriver was the cause of the railway collision at Bradford on May 20, when one passenger was killed and 14 were injured, according to the finding of a Ministry of Transport inquiry. The driver started from the platfonh against a signal at the danger position.
The report stated that the only reasons he could give for his failure were that he may have been thinking about a holiday in Switzerland that he had to start in two days, or he may have been thinking about union matters. “The trip to Switzerland was undoubtedly to be an important ev*ent. and the driver allowed it to distract his attention from his duty.” The driver was aged 57, and he had been qualified for 30 years.
