13YEAR DECLINE HALTED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyinght) WASHINGTON, September 17. Thfe 13-year decline in thfe purchasing power Of the dollar has been halted* Mr George Humphrey, Secretary of the Treasury, said today. He said the value of the consumers’ dollar for all items had changed lesS than half a cfent in the last six months* compared with a dfeclitte of nearly 20 cents in the last six years. “While six mohths is a short time in which to gauge a trend, it does in* ,diOate that for the moment at least the dollar has become better stabilised,” said Mr Humphrey; He . said the major objective of thfe Eisenhower Administration was to provide what he termed “honfest money*” Which could be achieved.by Budget economies, an end to dfeficit financing, arid other steps.
