MENUS PRINTED IN FRENCH
Visitors To Britain “ Annoyed ”
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 17. The printing of mehus in French had anhoyfed- hundreds of visitors to Britain, Sir. Alexander Maxwell, chairman of the British Travel and Holidays Association, told the association’s annual meeting. “A diner confronted With a complicated menu in French gets an inferiority complex if he is unfamiliar With the language and an inferiority complex is very bad for the digestion. Nor does it flatter our many visitors from France, since ‘Codkihg Frfench’ is often so atrociously bad as to be an insult to the language. “Worst of all is the fact that the waiters do not always understand it themsfelves. Oh the Continent British and American visitors expect to have the problem of a foreign language, but they do not expect to need a FrenchEnglish dictionary ih Lohdon.”
