CONTROL OF HYDATIDS
COMMITTEE FORMED AT KAIKOURA
SCHEME TO BE PLACED BEFORE COUNCIL
A scheme for the control of hydatids in the Kaikoura district was recently approved by a combined meeting of farming and women’s organisations. The plan calls. for the dosing of dogs every three months at central points throughout toe county. The district hydatids committee, which was formed at the meeting, will present the scheme to the couhty council for approval and ask for a t»y* law to enforce it. ' The chairman (Mr E. G. Latter), who was a member of a sub-committee set up by the Kaikoura branch bf Federated Farmers to sponsor the plan, said that if the county council would control the administration, assistance by means of subsidy would be available from the Government, and the committee would raise £2OO yearly towards the cost. The scheme outlined included at least one annual inspection of the slaughterhouse, or regular killingplace, on a farm, and of the method of offal disposal to see that it was “dog-proof.” Boiling and deep burial methods were recommended. It was agreed that dogs should be registered at that visit.
The district hydatids committee would . comprise one representative from each organisation. Delegates to present the scheme to the county council were elected as follows:—Messrs E. G. Latter, W. M. Dowle, F. Emms, Dr. G. D. Gordon, and Mrs H. Roberton.
