COALMINERS

• Sir, —The “pity the poor miner” campaign being carried on in the- correspondence columns of “The Press” lately must make any self-respecting miner quite disgusted. The poor calciumless, Godless miner is not the only worker who lacks calcium if a periodic desire for a day off is any indication. As for his finding God at his work, does the office worker, the shop girl, factory hand or even the man who works in the open unless He is known by them before going to their occupations? Perhaps He is still to be found in l the “obsolete” church or in the good old book, but the habit-bound feet are hard to burn and the jeers of workmates nip many a good resolve in the bud. —Yours, etc., TIN-TACKS. Blackball, July 20, 1953. [M. G. Davies may briefly reply; otherwise, this correspondence is closed. —Ed., “The Press.”]
