EVENING PARTY
CHRISTCHURCH CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION At the invitation of the president (Mrs H. E. Radley) and committee of the women’s, branch of the Christchurch Citizen’s Association, about 100 guests attended an enjoyable evening's entertainment on Saturday. The gathering was one of a series which the women’s section of the association hopes to arrange to raise money to erect a pilotlight near the gioneer women’s memorial on the iimmit road. If sufficient money is raised, it is planned to have the light erected before the Queen’s visit to Christchurch.
On Saturday, some interesting films were screened. The first series was provided by Mrs W. S. Mac Gibbon, who showed attractive pictures she had taken of Christchurch and its surroundings and of Fiordland and the Southern Lakes. She gave a commentary on each film. Mr Radley, who, with Mrs Radley and their daughters recently returned from a trip overseas, showed coloured slides of pictures he had taken during his travels in Britain, Europe, and on his homeward journey by way of Suez. Mr Radley gave an interesting commentary on the pictures. Two young artists played mouth organ and piano accordion solos. Supper was served by the committee.
