STRIKE WAVE IN FRANCE
Threat Of More Stoppages (Rec. 10 pm.) LONDON. May 8. Reuter’s Paris correspondent say* fresh strikes today threaten France, which is gripped by the biggest wave of industrial unrest for more than ■ year. Work is at a standstill at the giant Renault motor works, and about 40 ocean-going ships are lying idle in French ports because of a strike of mechant navy officers. Strike Threats have been made In a statement issued by union* representing hotel, grocery store, dairy, butchery and flourmill businesses. . Most Paris power station* had onehour stoppages yesterday. About 5000 steel-helmeted police and anti-riot squads armed with sten gun* last night cordoned off the vast Renault factory compound. The management invited 1400 workers to return to work today, but the strike leaders called on the workers to desregard this offer. They repeated their demands that all 40,000 should be reinstated and their wages claim met.
