A PENSIONER’S COMPLAINT

Sir, —I wonder how the powers that be can make laws for themselves granting allowances for universal pension, no matter what income they had. Yet they can hound a pensioner down to find out all about a few shillings ancT hold up his pension three weeks because of it. I have to thank shop people who have made it easier for me. Why make flesh of one and bone of others who are in such a hateful position through no fault bf their own? —Yours, etc., HARD HIT. March 31, 1953. [Universal superannuitants were not subject to any means test, whereas applicants for other social security benefits were, said the assistant registrar of ths Social Security Department (Mr G. L. Ching), commenting on this letter. If the correspondent had a genuine complaint, he should call at the social security office.]
