WIN FOR RED JESTER

ALL AGED STAKES - AT RANDWICK (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 8. The New Zealand horse Red Jester had a convincing win over Bob Cherry in the All-Aged Stakes at Randwick today. The odds-on faovurite, Oversight, was third. Red Jester was only the third favourite in the field of five. Explaining the improvement in the horse's form over his effort in the Doncaster Handicap on Saturday, his trainer, Jack Cameron, said Red Jester choked up during the Doncaster and coughed for nearly an hour afterwards. A veterinary surgeon who, at Cameron’s request, examined Red Jester before today's race, reported he could find nothing wrong, so Cameron let the horse run.

Red Jester was cleverly ridden by A. Mulley, who allowed him to bowl along in about third place to the home turn. The horse finished with a great dash to win convincingly. The favourite, Royal Stream, lost his chance at the start of the Champagne Stakes when he jumped out of the gate, threw his head in the air, and nearly fell. He was beaten by Cortauld, which began better than usual, and was never worse than fourth. Royal Stream, several lengths behind the field at the start, finished in great style and half a furlong from the post looked like getting up. to win. His run ended 50 yards from home, however, and he was beaten by half a length. Jan scored an easy win over Great Western and Clutha in the Cumberland Stakes. Great Western oame round the home turn five lengths clear. Jan, without much effort, raced alongside and drew away in the last 50 yards. Results:— ALL-AGED STAKES, Of £2600. One mile.
