ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

INTER-ISLAND MATCH

FIXTURE MAY BE PLAYED AT AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 8. If acceptable gate arrangements can be made with the Auckland Football Association, the New Zealand Football Association last night recommended that the annual inter-island match be played at Blandford Park. The tentative date is July 18. It also decided that the entries for the Chatham Cup, Brown Shield (for competition by North Island minor associations) and the Peter Dawson Cup (for competition by the South Island minor associations) would close on May 1. Entries for the Junior National Cup would close on the same day. The annual Football Association Trophy tournament will be played at Dunedin during the Queen’s Birthday week-end. It will probably be followed by an interisland match on the Tuesday, Coronation A sub-committee comprising Messrs J. Meltzer, B. Connor, and J. Kershaw was set up to explore the possibility of New Zealand entering a team in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. The subcommittee will bring down recommendations.

Mr B. Connor was re-elected chairman of the council and Mr J. A. Cowie deputychairman. Officers appointed to the council were Mr M. Webley* representing the Junior National Council, Mr G. Jackson, representing the New Zealand Referees’ Association, and Dr. J. Dacre, representing the New Zealand University.
