FUNERAL OF STALIN
MOSCOW, March'9. The body of Stalin was today laid to rest beside* that of Lenin in the mausoleum exactly at midday local time. Before the coffin was placed in the square red-stoned mausoleum, alongside Lenin’s, * the dead Premier's memory was eulogised by his successor, Mr Malenkov, and by the next two men in the Soviet Union’s new governments, Mr Befia and Mr Molotov. After the orations the party leaders slowly descended from the rostrum, carrying the coffin to the mausoleum. Party and Government leaders, accompanied by Soviet marshals and generals, returned to the rostrum for the march past of Moscow’s garrison and troops of the funeral cortege paying their last honours to Stalin. MESSAGE FROM STUDENT LABOUR FEDERATION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 10. The executive of the New Zealand Student Labour Federation has sent a message to the Soviet Legation in Wellington, expressing “deepest condolences on the death of Stalin.” Members of the executive and of the Victoria University College Socialist Club called at the legation to convey their respects personally.
