AIR FORCE PRIZE MONEY

FREEZING OF FUND SOUGHT “The Press” Special Service

AUCKLAND, January 20. The Government has been asked to take urgent action to freeze the remainder of the Air Force prize money fund. The request was made by the president of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Association (Mr F. E. Whimp) in a telegram to the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald). Mr Whimp said that the association had been advised by the trustees of the fund that certain specified categories of members rendered the association ineligible for a grant.' However, the Air Force Association (Inc.), of Wellington, which had the same membership categories and may therefore have been ineligible, had been given £30,000. The fund originally totalled £58,000. The ruling of the trustees meant that prize money was now being used to set up a rival organisation in Auckland.
