90TH BIRTHDAY
MRS ANDREW HARDIE Mrs A. Hardie, of Gloucester street, is celebrating her ninetieth birthday today. To mark the occasion a party has been arranged by her family of four sons and four daughters. Mrs Hardie was born at Heathcote Valley, and at the age of three went with her parents, Mr and Mrs Edward Butler, to Porter’s Pass, where they took up farming. She can recall that it took two days to travel to and from Christchurch in a two-horse dray to get the year’s prqyisions. She was educated at Weedons School while living with her godparents, Mr and Mrs T. Gudsell. At the age of 22 Mrs Hardie married Mr Andrew Hardie, of Invernessshire, and lived at Mount Torlesse, where her husband managed the sheep station for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. They also lived at Sheffield. Mr Hardie died 14 years ago. Mrs Hardie enjoys good health and still has a lively sense of humour. She is interested in current affairs and her church work and corresponds with members of her family.
