ROAD TRANSPORT OPERATIONS

30-MILE RESTRICTION OPPOSED (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, October .6. The 30-mile restriction on road transport operation in New Zealand should be examined again by the Transport Department, • said the Commissioner of Transport (Mr G. L. Laurenson) to delegates to the annual conference of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance, which ended in Wanganui today. Mr Laurenson was asked for his opinions on a remit which the alliance Is to send to the Transport Depart/nent. The remit says that the finding of the Royal Commission on Railways that the 30-mile limit should not be increased is contrary to the opinions of several bodies. It was 15 years since the restriction had been reviewed, and conditions had changed considerably in that time, said Mr Laurenson. “I submitted the suggestion to the Railways Commission that the situation should be reviewed,” he said. “I can’t say more than that, but I do think representatives of the Transport Department, the Railways Department, and other interested parties should investigate the whole problem.”
