END OF SEASON CONCERT AT LEESTON
A programme of part-songs, folk songs, solos and vocal quartets was presented by the Ellesmere Musical Society at its end-of-season concert in the Leeston Town Hall. The concert, under the conductorship of Mr George McCann, was well received. Solo parts were taken by Miss Lorna Gilbert and Mr D. M. Halliday and the quartets were sung by Mrs W. E. Doak, Miss M. Welsh and Messrs J. Parkin and D. M. Halliday. Miss Joan Wilkinson played pianoforte solos and acted as accompanist. As guest soloist for the evening Mr Arthur Bell, of Christchurch, sang several songs, his son, Mr Alistair Bell, playing the accompaniments.
•Die Ellesmere Dramatic Society, wtih Mrs J. A. Scott as producer, staged A. A. Milne’s one-act play, “The Man in the Bowler Hat,” those taking part being Mesdames L. Gay and F. Bishop and Messrs W. E Honeybone, J. G. Conolly, J. Bateman, N. Ryde, and E. Collins.
