CHOLMONDELEY HOME
MONTHLY MEETING The matron of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s Home (Miss I. M. Clark) reported at the monthly meeting of the committee that there had been no cases of sickness among the children during the month. She expressed her thanks to the parents of two children for the gift of two bags of potatoes. Other gifts received were raspberry jam, eggs and potatoes. During the month the children were entertained at a party given by members of the Christchurch Rotary Club, when each child received an icecream and sweets. A gramophone had been' given for the entertainment of the children. Mrs White reported that the home management committee had v purchased nelv crockery. The secretary (Miss N. A. Houghton) reported that 18 children had been admitted during the month and there were 20 in residence. A member of the committee, Mr A. B. Allen, who has been granted a Fulbright award to enable him to undertake research in education in the United States, was granted leave of absence. The committee agreed to send a letter to Mr Allen, congratulating him. The president (Mr E. A. Adams) reported on the deputation which waited on members of the Education Board about a new classroom for the home. Permission had been granted' by the City Council to conduct a sale of goods at a stall in Cathedral square later m the month. Members of the committee were asked to make contributions.
