200,000 ROUNDS FIRED
N.Z. ARTILLERYMEN IN KOREA
(N.Z. Army Information Service] KOREA. November 8. The 16th New Zealand Field Regiment expended its 200.000 th round yesterday during a Communist attack, which was repelled with the help of very heavy fire from the artillery of the Ist Commonwealth Division. The enemy committed more artillery, including rockets, than for some time. The fire was severe on both sides until midnight, and at breakfast time this morning a final divisional target was fired against an enemy force observed moving towards a feature from which they had failed to dislodge Commonwealth infantry during the night. The enemy dispersed immediately. The New Zealanders sustained one casualty, of a minor nature, from shrapnel. The 100,000 th round was not fired until late September, but the 200,000 th was fired only six weeks later. This is because the munition supply has been less restricted and transport difficulties have virtually disappeared. . During last month the regiment expended 72,000 rounds—a record which may be surpassed this month.
