MAORI WOMEN’S WELFARE
CONFERENCE APPROVES CONSTITUTION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 27. Seventy-one Maori women, meeting in Wellington to-day as delegates to the Welfare League conference, formally adopted the final draft of a national constitution and decided to affiliate with the National Council of Women and the Pan-Pacific Association. The constitution describes the aims and objects of the Maori Women’s Welfare League as including the promotion fo understanding between Maori and European women, the encouragement of tuition in home-craft, mother-craft, hygiene, and the Maori arts, anc * the giving of help in sickness and distress. The colours of the league are kokowai (red) and kowhai (yellow), and its motto "Tatau tatau” (“We are one," or “Let us be united”). The badge features a Maori house and this motto. The headquarters of the new organisation will be in Wellington for the present.
