RUGBY FOOTBALL PAYNE TROPHY MATCH

MARIST AND DUNEDIN TO MEET TO MORROW

"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, Sept. 27.

Keen Interest is being taken inthe Payne trophy match between Marist and Dunedin, the premier teams of Canterbury and Otago, to be played at Carisbrook on Saturday in conjunction with the Middlesex Cup seven-a-side tournament. Both teams will be strong and well-balanced. All but three of the Marist side have represented Canterbury in the A. B, or colts' teams.

With the exception of P. V. Kearney, who is to be married on Saturday, the All Black. T. W. Lynch, who has retired for the year because of an ankle Injury, and B. A. Simpson, who has had a recurrence of a knee injury, the Marist team will be practically identical with that which won the Canterbury premiership. J. E. Maybury will replace Kearney, and M. Costigan will replace Simpson. Heenan, who took over from Lynch during the season and has represented Canterbury, will be centre. The Dunedin team will be without two of its stars, J. Dunne, the promising young Otago winger, who will play for the South Island colts In Christchurch, and the Otago half-back, A. R. Haig, who has an arm injury. The Dunedin side, however, Includes eight players who have represented Otago either this year or in the past. If the weather holds, the ground will be hard and fast. The teams are:— . Dunedin.—M. RUGBY PLAYERS TO GO TO BRITAIN

YORKSHIRE CLUB’S OFFER (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 26. Three New Zealand Rugby Union players have accepted terms to join the Dewsbury Rugby League Club, Yorkshire, and will leave for England in about 10 days. The Dewsbury Club to-day announced the names of the players as H. Nepia, aged 20, centre, J. Wilson, aged 21, fullback, and S. Smith, aged 24, second-row forward. Nepia is a cousin of the famous George Nepia, the New Zealand Rugby Union full-back, who turned professional and played for Halifax.
