AGREEMENT ON INCREASE IN WAGES

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 10. An increase of 7s od a week in pay for adult dairy farm workers has been agreed upon between dairy farmers’ representatives and the New Zealand Workers’ Union. Proportionate increases have been agreed upon for workers under 21 years. These increases are a sequel to the 1951-52 guaranteed price announcement, under which the Dairy Products Marketing Commission made a greater allowance in consideration of work done at weekends and on holidays. The increase for farm workers has yet to receive the approval of the Minister of Labour. The increase is intended to be operative from August 1, the date of the opening ot the new dairy produce export season. The new rates agreed upon are as follows:—workers under 17 years, £3 8s 9d a week; 17 and under 18, £4 5s 6d; 18 am' under 19, £5 3s 9d; 19 and under 2° £6 Os 6d; 20 and under 21, £6 16s 9d; 21 and over, £7 13s. Board and lodging is provided by the employer in addition to these wages. Where board and lodging is not provided an additional £1 8s 9d must be paid. Casual workers’ rates of pay are unchanged
