MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE
YOUNG MAN’S DEATH NEAR MASTERTON
(New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON. September 10. Henry Fontaine Kawana, aged 18, was remanded in custody until September 25, when he appeared before Messrs A. W. McKenzie and A. O. Jones, Justices of the Peace, in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning, charged with having unlawfully killed Thomas Tawhia, aged 18, at Te Ore Ore yesterday, thereby committing manslaughter. Detective-Sergeant F. A. Gordon asked for the remand. Mr K. Headifen represented the accused. Tawhia’s body was foifnd lying on the veranda of Mr J. Morris’s house at Te Ore Ore at 6.30 p.m. yesterday.
