HOKITIKA BITUMEN ON FIRE
Dense black smoke was pouring from the ground floor of the uncompleted new post office at Hokitika when the volunteer fire brigade was called just before 8.30 o’clock yesterday morning. The smoke was caused by blazing bitumen. The fire was extinguished by the brigade. No structural damage was caused. Normal work on the building continued immediately. YOUNG FARMERS’ TOUR Fifty members of young farmers’ clubs of South Westland left Hokitika on Monday, to tour North Island farming districts.
