CENTENNIAL ANTHEM

Sir, —It occurred to me this morning that one of the centenary things the Cathedral choir could do would be to reprofflice one of the former festival programmes, especially the one prepared for Queen Victoria’s jubilee in 1887. I understand an anthem was specially written by Lloyd for the occasion, "I Give the Lord the Honour Due unto His Name," and a hymn, "For Fifty Years," the words by Dean Jacobs, who, I believe, was first headmaster of Christ’s College, and the music by Mr G. F. Tendal, Mus. Bac., one of the Cathedral’s best organists and a fine man. I wonder if any of the churches still have a set of those old fine festival books. Perhaps the present organist of the Cathedral will consider this.—Yours, etc., GILLY FLOWER. November 9, 1850.
