CANDIDATE REPLIES TO “THE PRESS”

‘The editor of 'The Press’ stated that Labour candidates are controlled by the body which nominates them. That is a false statement calculated to mislead the public, and as long as he can mislead the public and condemn the Laifour Party the editor is quite happy,” said Mr C. Baldwin, a Labour Party candidate for the City Council, at an open-air meeting in Waltham last evening. He referred to a leading article in “The Press” after his party had announced its policy for the local body elections. "It is true that we are nominated by the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee, but once elected we are never dictated to, because Labour has confidence in its candidates.” Mr Baldwin said.
