CARPENTERS ON WHARVES
DISPUTE REMAINS UNSETTLED
TALKS AT WELLINGTON FAIL
(New Zealand Press Association) i WELLINGTON, November 7. A conference initiated by the Labour Department between representatives of the Waterside Workers’ Union and the New Zealand Port Employers' Association was held this afternoon but failed to settle the wharf carpenters’ wage dispute. The chairman of the conference (Mr J. A. Gilmour, S.M.) will report the result to the Minister of Labour (Mr W. Sullivan) to-morrow.
An employers’ spokesman said tonight: "We regret that it wqs found impossible to reach agreement and that the union was not prepared to submit the dispute to arbitration." -
