TASMAN FLIGHTS TO MELBOURNE

LICENCE FOR ESSENDON URGED Moves to hasten the institution of the direct air service between Harewood and Melbourne are being considered by the Government, according to latest advice received by the Harewood Overseas Air Terminal Committee.

A proposal was made that the New Zealand Government should approach the Australian Government to have Essendon airport licensed for charter and regular trans-Tasman services, and the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) has replied that the suggestion is being considered. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr W. S. Goosman) says he had expected Essendon to be declared an international airport by now, and has pro-, mised to look into the matter. The Harewood Overseas Air Terminal Committee, in its letter to the Minisler, congratulated him on the progress being made at Harewood.

The Canterbury' Chamber of Commercer is also pressing the matter through the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, which will .celebrate its centennial and “commerce week" early next year. It has been suggested that inauguration of the Melbourne-Hare-wood service would be a fitting part df these celebrations.
