CARPENTERS ON WHARVES
DISPUTE SPREADS AT LYTTELTON
WATERSIDE WORKERS DISMISSED
The dispute with the shipwork carpenters at Lyttelton has now spread to waterside workers, and one §ang was dismissed yesterday because its members refused to work with a carpenter member of the crew of the ship on which they were employed. The trouble occurred on the New -Zealand Shipping Company’s vessel ‘Hurunui. When a carpenter was required in one of the holds the Hurunui’s own carpenter was sent down. The watersiders at otice left the vessel, and, on refusing to return, were dismissed. So far no penalty has been imposed by the Waterfront Industry Commission. The other gangs on the HuruAui worked as usual.
