HOUSE BURNT AT KOKIRI
FAMILY UNAWARE; WERE LISTENING TO RADIO
From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, November 6. While listening to the broadcast of the commentary on the running of (the New Zealand Cup, a family living at, Kokiri, Westland, had their house burnt over their heads on Saturday afternoon. It was not until a passing motorist saw the flames that the occupants were aware of their plight, but it was too late, for flames had a firm hold and the house was burnt to the ground. The owner, Mr Charles Rciha, and his wife and family of six young children, were grouped round the radio when a passing motorist knocked at the door and asked: “Do you know your house is on fire?"Rushing outside 'they found, the root a mass of flames and the fire spreading throughout the house. With little water available, and no assistance, gjl that - could be saved was a small amount of furniture. The home of six rooms and contents were uninsured. The Reiha family are staying 1 with a neighbour. No explanation for the fire has been found.
