RUSSIA’S 44TH VETO

KOREA MOTION LOST ON U.N. COUNCIL NEW YORK, Sept. 6. In the Security Council, Russia to-day vetoed the American resolution condemning North Korea for its defiance of the United Nations. There were nine votes in favour, with Jugoslavia abstaining and Russia against. Mr Jacob Malik cast the Soviet Union’s lorty-fourth veto in the Security Council. The resolution, therefore. was lost, a-though this will have no effect on the United Nations action in tne Korean war. Th? resolution. 1) Condemned the North Korean authorities for their continued defiance of the United Nations. (2) Called on all States to use ; their influence to make the North Koreans end their defiance. (3) Asked all States to refrain from helping the North Koreans and to avoid any action which would spread the Korean conflict. The Russian resolution, which called for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Korea, was defeated with eight votes against, Egypt and Jugoalavia abstaining.
