U.S. EQUIPS NEW BATTALIONS

SAIGON, Sept. 6. The United States Minister (Mr Donald Heath) to-day handed over American equipment for eight motorised battalions to the National Army of Vietnam. This was the first war aid received from the United States for Indo-China since the outbreak of the fighting in Korea. The Vietnam Army Minister (Mr Trang Guang Vinh) asked Mr Heath to assure his Government of Vietnam's desire to “carry on the battle for the peace and security of the world •t the side of the free nations.”
