AERIAL TOPDRESSING

BRISTOL FREIGHTER ORDERED BY AIR FORCE (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 7. A Bristol Freighter aircraft, completely equipped for aerial topdressing, has been ordered from Britain by the Royal New Zealand Air Force. It is to arrive with the other aeroplanes the Air Force recently announced it had ordered. The Deputy-Chief of Air Staff (Group Captain R. J. Cohen) said today that the object in first ordering only one aeroplane was to examine the economics of operating this type of aircraft on a large scale. The Air Force did not want a swarm of topdressing aeroplanes without testing one. He said that from overseas reports it was apparent the Bristol Freighter was suitable for aerial top-dressing, but the running costs in New Zealand required investigation.
